Steven Paolino Obituary

PAOLINO, Steven, T. 59, of West Warwick, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 21, 2022.

Born in Warwick, he was the beloved son of Dorothy (Varadian) Paolino of Warwick and the late Nicholas Paolino.

Steven was the very substance of strength, kindness, thoughtfulness and compassion.

Steven adored and loved his family especially his cherished Mother and sister Debbie.  Steven treasured all the simple things in life.  A few years ago, Steven adopted a Dachshund Beagle named Willow that he loved so much they became inseparable. Steven especially loved riding his Harley Davidson and enjoyed countless trips with his many friends. Steven belonged to several gyms and loved working out so much that he hardly missed a day.  He made so many life-long friends there.  Steven was a member of the PIC in W. Warwick, and he loved and participated in many sports; Baseball, Hockey, Football, Shooting Pool & Golfing.  Steven and his loyal companion Willow loved exploring nature trails and enjoyed many fun adventures together.  She misses her Papa desperately.

When Steven was young his life revolved around sports.  He played for the Little League Baseball, Pop Warner Football, Ross Brooks Hockey School and was also an avid Pool Player and Golfer.  He loved to go bowling with his Mom too.

When Steven got older he learned plumbing working with his Dad. He loved working with his Dad and his brother Jimmy (Nicky) in the family business.  He also adored his Grandmother and learned to cook watching her.  He became an acclaimed Cook with everyone eagerly standing in line for his famed Stuffies and scrumptious seafood dishes.  Steven was so smart and fun to be around that he made life more interesting just being around him.  He had a sense of humor that would make you laugh when you really wanted to cry.

And, unbeknownst to our family, Steven surprised all of us by being a great Poet too! He shared many of his poems with his family, friends and more recently on Facebook.  The poems brought so much happiness to so many people.

Steven didn’t like being alone so one of his greatest gifts was to give himself. Family, friends, strangers, it didn’t matter.  All were welcome in his life.  If he met someone who looked down and out he would pick them up and help them find their way.  He would provide a place to stay, a ride, or just loyal friendship.

Steven had struggles but didn’t shy away from them.  He lost his big brother Jimmy (Nicky) to a tragedy many years ago and it forever changed him.  And then his sister, Linda to another heartbreak which really strained all of us to our core.  Steven had to dig deep to find the strength to go on.

Though much of his life was hard emotionally and physically, Steven was strong and given a 2nd chance at life.  Everyone close to Steven knew he had Cancer but Steven was very lucky to meet a phenomenal doctor named, Dr. Abbass.  He saved Steven’s life about a month ago and we are eternally grateful to him and his team.  The surgery was extremely challenging.  After the surgery Steven began to thrive and we thought our share of pain and suffering was over…but God had other plans.

We are all so crushed with sadness at the loss of a man who was so special that he could never be replaced.  How great our suffering, no one can ever fully imagine.

My family and I give thanks for the life of a man we are so proud to have called; son, brother, papa, uncle, cousin, nephew and life-long friend - the strong, gentle, thoughtful, kindhearted man who will never be extinguished from our minds.

Besides his mother, he leaves two sisters, Debbie DeRosa and Linda Paolino as well as several nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late James “Nicky” Paolino.
