Lavery, RSM Sister Jamesita 91, a Sister of Mercy for 72 years died on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center.
She was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Potter) Lavery and sister of the late Catherine Stawaris. She was pre-deceased by a nephew, Paul Stawaris. Sister is survived by two nephews, Mark and Andrew Stawaris, and two nieces, Ann Feldman and Mary Chudy. Mary’s husband Carl and Sister’s grandniece, Martha are among surviving family members who will miss her presence.
Sister started her ministry teaching in New Bedford and Fall River parish schools. For a number of years, Sister Jamesita worked with special needs children at St. Maurice School in Maryland. Upon returning to Rhode Island, she taught at St. Thomas School in Providence.
Although short in stature, Sister did not let this keep her from making her presence known. Her laughter filled the room. Many summer guests at Watch Hill in Westerly, Rhode Island enjoyed her sense of humor and her cooking skills. She was faithful to her friends and colleagues who will miss her twinkling eyes and elfin grin. Sister Jamesita, may you be at peace. You lived your motto doing all things in Him Who strengthened you.
