Sister Catherine Mary Janes, RSM

JANES, RSM, SISTER CATHERINE MARY (formerly Sister Mary Joseph Michael) 81, a Sister of Mercy for 62 years, died unexpectedly in her home on Saturday, June 12, 2021. 

She was the daughter of the late William and Edna (Millett) Janes and sister of the late William Jr. and twin, Joseph Janes.  She is survived by her sisters, Juliette, Edna, Patricia (Magill), and Lillian and her brother Francis.

Sister Catherine spent her years in ministry working with elementary children in both the Diocese of Providence and Fall River.  Her sense of humor made her an instant favorite with young children.  She also spent some time in Belize, Central America as a teacher.

The Family Outreach Center (FOCus) in Rhode Island received the benefit of her cheery presence as a Pre-K head teacher for a number of years.  In her retirement she continued Mercy ministry by volunteering as a visitor at Cherry Hill Manor. Her family and friends will miss her bubbly personality and kind Mercy presence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 19, 2021 at St. John Vianney Church, 3587 Diamond Hill Rd., Cumberland, RI beginning with a Mercy Prayer Service at 9:45 a.m.  Interment will be Monday, June 21, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland, RI.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Sister’s memory to the Sisters of Mercy, 15 Highland View Road, Cumberland, RI 02864  www.sistersofmercy.org/northeast would be appreciated.  Information and condolences please visit: www.galloglyfuneralhome.com
