Maria D. (Moretti) Mazzenga

MAZZENGA, Maria D. (Moretti), 95, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, June 29, 2020 at Brentwood Nursing Home.

She was the beloved wife of the late Giovanni “John” Mazzenga.  Born in Coventry, a daughter of the late Giuseppe and Mariana (Fera) Moretti.   Along with her family at the age of three, she left Coventry and moved to Italy. She married John in 1948, and wanting a better life for themselves and family, she returned to the United States in 1950, her husband following her in 1951, and settled in West Warwick.

Mrs. Mazzenga was an assembler at Bradford Soapworks for many years until retiring in 1988.  A communicant of Sacred Heart Church, she enjoyed cooking for her family, knitting, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by a son, Anthony Mazzenga (Brenda) of Warwick; four daughters, Lucy Santurri (David) of West Warwick, Josephine Nicholls of West Warwick, Rita Petrarca (Kevin) of Newburg, NY and Tina Zampa (Gerald) of Escondido, CA; a sister, Oliva Petrilli (Frank) of West Warwick; grandchildren, Michael Mazzenga and Stephanie Holbert, Christopher and Ryan Santurri, Lauren Kazarian, Cory Nicholls, Nathan and Evan Petrarca; fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother-in-law of the late Michael Nicholls and the sister of the late Angelo Moretti.

Her funeral service and interment will be private.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in the coming months.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to a charity of one’s choice in her memory would be appreciated.
