JoAnn C. Dowiot

DOWIOT, JoAnn C., 79, of Davie, FL, formerly of Providence, passed away Friday, September 9, 2022 at Vitas Inpatient Hospice, Sunrise, FL.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Anna (Corsi) Dowiot.

JoAnn was executive secretary to the Registrar at Brown University from 1968 to 1996, physically mapping out all class settings by hand before the launch of the computer age.  Upon her move to Florida, she began work at Broward College in the honors program, later serving as assistant to the Dean of the English department before her retirement.

JoAnn’s love of travel was a huge part of her life, visiting Hawaii on multiple occasions, as well as traveling on many cruises; including trips abroad.  But her most fun was her love of sharing Disney World with anyone who would join in; especially with her mom Anna, and all her extended family.  She also adored her church, St. Gregory the Great, where she was part of the Life After 50 group, as well as the Woman’s Guild.

JoAnn loved family beyond all else.  Her cherished nieces and nephews were truly treated as children of her own.

She is survived by a brother, Robert P. Dowiot and his wife June of North Kingstown; two nieces, Deborah Buxton and Kim Samos and four nephews, Ronald, Joshua, Jonathan and Justin Dowiot.  She was the sister of the late Joseph E. Dowiot, Jr. and aunt to the late Gail Croce.  JoAnn is also survived by 2 “Florida Sisters”: Barbara Listwon and Oliva Garza whom she loved dearly.  Lastly, she is survived by 2 angels of mercy who faithfully and selflessly served her well in her final months; Marge Darragh and Betty Will.

Her funeral will be held Monday, September 19, 2022 at 8:45 a.m. from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick.
