Ernest “Ernie” E. Roberts, 98, of Buckley Avenue, West Warwick, left this earth for life eternal on Sunday, October 8, 2023 surrounded by those who loved him.
He was the beloved husband of Crystal G. (MacDonald) Roberts, they were married for forty-one years. Born in the Quidnick section of Coventry, a son of the late Alfred J. and Jessie (Hill) Roberts.
Mr. Roberts was a supervisor of maintenance at Scalabrini Villa Nursing Center for thirty-two years before retiring in 1997 at the age of seventy-two. He was a WWII Army Veteran, joining the service at the age of 17. He fought in General Patton’s 3rd Army in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals before being honorably discharged in 1947. He believed in our country and served with distinction.
Ernest has the distinction of being in a Number One best seller in World War II military history, the title of the book is “The Rifle”.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four children, June Fullmer and husband Doug, Patricia Cromwell and husband Joe, Julie Roberts, and Daniel Roberts and wife Karen; three step-children, Belinda Bradley, Martin Bradley and Amber Barefoot; five grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Ernest H. Roberts and brother of the late Edna Harrison, William, John, George and Alfred Roberts. Everyone loved Ernie and he will be missed.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Service on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of East Greenwich, 31 Peirce Street, East Greenwich. Interment will be private with military honors in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
