Stella DeGregory Obituary

Ms. STELLA ‘The Star’ DEGREGORY, who after reaching her 102nd year on GOD’s Good Earth, slowly and passively, through her family network of home and hospitals, entered her Eternal Reward with Our Risen LORD on Friday, February 9, 2018.

After celebrating her century old mark on Christmas Day back on December 25, 2015 with family, friends and neighbors at her beloved Sacred Heart Church with Holy Mass & Reception, gave all who knew her, two (2) more wonderful years of delight, charm and inspiration.

Stella was born in West Warwick, Rhode Island on Christmas Day of 1915 and has been a life-long resident of the Town of West Warwick since that time as well as a graduate of its High School in 1935 with business & finance training.

She became the daughter of Humberto and Angela (Petrarca) DeGregory, who had immigrated from Benevento & Fornelli, Italy, respectively, in 1923 and was sibling to brothers the late Mario ‘Danny’ DiGregorio (Loretta Riley), Jerry (Irene Bedard and Dorothy Sutton) & Anthony DeGregory (Ann Allaire) and Sisters Angela DeGregory, Mary Grace Rose DeGregory-Lancellotta (beloved Joseph), Anna DeGregory-Landry (beloved Norman) & surviving sibling, Viola DeGregory as their family tree.

Stella was a prolific office employee and secretary from working in the historic mill complexes of the Pawtuxet River Valley at Royal Mills for Davidson Brothers through the 1960’s to her retiring employment (Fiscal Payroll Clerk) in 1980 at the famed, Grinnell Corp., (a subsidiary of Tyco International Ltd)., one of the largest fire protection companies in the world in Providence, Rhode Island with its roots dating back to 1869.

She has always been truly active in church, and civic activities and responsibilities, including holy (Sacred Heart) sodalities, all charitable causes, scouting (Cub Den Mother) meetings, disable citizens’ visitations and cultural support.

Stella enjoyed the theater and loved cats!

Besides being survived by her sister Viola and her caring Nephew John J. “Jack” Lancellotta and loyal family friends Ron Holloway, Dwight David Colvin and Sandra Peters; she also has Nieces & God Daughter Anne Landry McCall (late Bill), Haley Fillo, Maryann DeGregory-Fillo (Paul), God Daughter Donna Conway,  Winifred, Dawn & Elizabeth Costanza, (late Jaimie DeGregory-Michalski), Tonia DeGregory-Wilson, Aimee DeGregory, Brittany DeGregory- Mason, Kim Raposa-Braga  & Alicia DeGregory; Nephews Humbert (wife Joan), Anthony, Jr. Andrew & Peter (wife Debbie) DeGregory, Norman Paul Landry, II, Louis (Barbara) Raposa, Nathan DeGregory, Louie, Jr., Michael & (late) David Raposa, William McCall, Jr., Vincent, Michael, David and Josh Costanza, Joey & beloved, Jimmy Lancellotta and Dr. Jerry (Rosalie & beloved, Susan) DeGregory, Jr. and numerous caring Cousins & Relatives.

During her long and productive lifetime, she has demonstrated in countless ways her charm, compassion and outreach to others and has earned such respect and affection of people from all walks of life and all ages.

She has certainly lived during the most eventful century of this world’s history and her quiet way has been a strong presence for good deeds and a stabilizing influence on those around her during such turbulent and also manageable years.
