Florence L. (Bates) Bedard

BEDARD, Florence L., (Bates), 89, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Riverview Healthcare Community, Coventry.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Bedard, Sr.  Born in Providence, a daughter of the late James J. and Ellen M. (Collins) Bates.

Mrs. Bedard was a sewer in the textile industry for many years and retired from School House Candy Co. in 1992.  She was a communicant of SS. John and James Parish where she was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and a past president of the Esperanza Hills Tenants Association, running the weekly bingo for eight years.  Her enjoyments included playing cards, bowling and bingo and she was an avid Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics fan.

 She is survived by two daughters, Ellen M. Schierschmidt and her husband Robert of West Warwick and Carol A. Menard and her husband Dave of Kernersville, NC; three sons, Joseph A. Bedard, Jr. and his wife Sue of DeBary, FL, James T. Bedard and his wife Lisa of Coventry and Peter J. Bedard and his wife Whitney of Newington, CT, thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.  She was the sister of the late Mary Novak, Teresa Legault, Christine Hamilton, Blanche McCarthy, Helen Rollins, James J., Jr., Fred and John Bates.

 Her funeral will be held Friday, July 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the HENAULT-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 5 Eddy Street, West Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. in SS. John and James Church, 20 Washington Street, West Warwick.  Interment will be in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.  Visiting Hours Thursday 4:00-7:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers contributions to SS.
